Serifos – The Authentic Island of the Cyclades

Geography & Landscape

Located in the western Cyclades, close to Sifnos and Kythnos, Serifos covers about 75 square kilometers and boasts a coastline filled with dozens of beaches, coves, and rugged cliffs.
Its terrain is mostly mountainous, with hills descending to the sea, while the Chora (main town) sits proudly on a hill, offering breathtaking views.

History & Culture

Serifos has a rich history dating back to ancient times. According to mythology, Danaë and Perseus washed ashore here after being cast into the sea by King Acrisius. It is also said that Perseus returned to Serifos carrying the head of Medusa.

In historical times, Serifos was famous for its iron and copper mines, which operated until the 20th century. Traces of this mining heritage are still visible across the island’s landscape.

The Chora, with its whitewashed houses, small churches, and narrow alleys, is a living example of Cycladic tradition.
